TAMPA - For families with children with special needs, adapting is like their middle name. So when it came time for this year’s holiday event, they had no trouble packing up the car and getting in line for some Christmas cheer.

“The kids you know, they’ve had a pretty rough year so to be able to come do something that’s pseudo familiar is more comforting for them of course. We have special needs children so this event here usually helps them cope with the trials and tribulations of life pretty much,” said Mary Reynolds.

For five years now the Diversity Action Coalition Inc has hosted the event.

Usually it’s held indoors, but this year they brought all the fun outside.

Each child had a special photo and visit with Santa, a gift bag, and lots of extra goodies to take home.

“But also I think the routine for those families with disabilities is incredibly important as well. Many times individuals with disabilities have to be isolated during this time because of pre-existing conditions that might make them at more risk,” said volunteer Raquel Pancho.
