Monday marked the first day for vaccinations in Florida’s assisted living facilities, as part of the federal partnership with CVS and Walgreens.

The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay was one of the first facilities in the Tampa Bay Area to begin those efforts.

Resident Jim Donarski was among the 140 residents to be vaccinated. The 89-year-old said he is hoping it will allow him to eventually see his children and grandchildren again.

“When you can see the person and actually look at them and touch them – precious,” Donarski said.

The team from CVS will not only be vaccinating residents but also staff and essential caregivers. However, management said residents in independent living will have to wait until phase two.
