TAMPA, Fla. — As the FDA continues to assess the Johnson & Johnson one-dose COVID-19 vaccine, some sites in Florida are now transitioning back to the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Tampa's Greyhound Track, one of four federal vaccination sites in Florida, will begin administering the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine today.

Anyone age 16 and older can receive the first dose at the greyhound facility, open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Officials said the site will offer 3,000 Pfizer shots every day, while also continuing to offer 2nd Pfizer doses.

What You Need To Know

The Johnson & Johnson one-dose shot is on pause as the FDA investigates whether six reported cases of blood clots in women out of seven million doses administered are linked to the vaccine.

State vaccination sites were planning to use the J & J one-dose vaccine as a way to speed vaccinations for millions of Floridians in the last two weeks of April.

Now, people who were waiting for the J & J one-dose will have to choose between waiting for the J & J shot to come back online, or opt for the 2-dose regimen three weeks apart.

Florida's Division of Emergency Management is now working with FEMA to determine vaccine capacity at sites, so appointments are strongly encouraged in the coming weeks.
