PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A SWAT team has taken a suspect into custody at the Comfort Inn in Pinellas Park that prompted this morning's closure of Ulmerton Road.

A SWAT team responded overnight to the Comfort Inn & Suites at 3910 Ulmerton Road after the man barricaded himself inside.

Ulmerton Road had been shut down in both directions between 34th Street and 49th Street since before 7 a.m.  

The roadway has been reopened.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect as 49-year-old Walter Brois. 

According to Pinellas Park police, the incident began as police responded to report of a truck with stolen tags in a nearby Sam’s Club parking lot Wednesday evening.

At one point, the male suspect later identified as Brois ended up dragging an officer as the suspect drove off in the vehicle. The officer was not seriously injured.

There was a short pursuit, which ended at the Comfort Inn.

 

Authorities said Brois barricaded himself in the room for several hours. Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies also responded to the hotel.

The hotel evacuation was been expanded as the area roads were closed.

There were no hostages and no other injuries.
