It’s a call most deputies don’t expect when they join the force, especially not just a couple years in.

“They say it’s maybe a once in a career experience,” Hillsborough County Deputy Jordan Ream said.

  • Hillsborough Deputy Jordan Ream talks about delivering a baby in a 7-Eleven parking lot

  • He's been with the department for less than two years

  • Mother and baby are both doing fine

So, when that call came in early Tuesday morning, Deputy Ream knew he had to jump into action.

“In my head I was like, well one of us is about to deliver a baby,” he recalled.

Deputy Ream arrived at a 7Eleven parking lot and found a woman moments from giving birth.

“I was just making sure she was calm, and she was doing great — just kept pushing and keep doing what she had to do,” Ream said. “I think I was telling myself to keep calm at the same time.”

Within two minutes of his arrival, the baby boy was born.

I got there, and the father told me the baby was crowning and starting to come out. And that’s when I knew it was time for me to do my job,” Ream said.

A job well done, according to fire rescue officials, who took mom and baby to Brandon Regional to get checked out.

Both are happy and healthy.

When asked where this experience ranks for this deputy on the list of calls he’s answered so far in his career, his answer was simple.

“Easy, number one.”

Deputy Ream hopes to reconnect with the family when they are discharged from the hospital.
