TAMPA, Fla. — A 37-year-old Tampa police officer has died from complications from COVID-19.

Officer Matthew S. Coleman had been with the Tampa Police Department for nearly seven years.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, the department said Coleman is survived by a wife and children.

He was assigned as a field training officer in District 11. He previously worked with the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

"He was a valued mentor and a friend to many," TPD said in the Facebook post.
