ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An Palm Harbor firefighter is home from the hospital after being injured on the job.

First responders from about one dozen agencies cheered on Lt. Ashley White as she was released from Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg.

The Lieutenant with Palm Harbor Fire Rescue was hurt Wednesday while responding to a call Wednesday when a speeding driver ran into her.

She spent days in intensive care and had surgery on her left leg and left arm. Lieutenant White smiled as she was wheeled out of the hospital, bruises and scrapes visible on her face.

"I’m doing well, thank you," Lt. White said as she was transported.

"It’s amazing, it really is," Lt. White said about all the people who showed up to support and encourage her.

"It’s hard not to get choked up," said Palm Harbor Fire Rescue Chief, Scott Sanford of seeing Lt. White's released from the hospital, calling it a miracle.

"I would have never believed it," said Chief Sanford. "Wednesday morning, if you would have told me that this is going to be the outcome of this, I would have never have even slightly have imagined this could happen like this."

Lt. White has a long road of recovery ahead but Chief Sanford says Lt. White is resilient and strong.
