The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said Benjamin Moulton reported to the office Wednesday and said he was responsible for killing Nicole Rose Scott.

Scott’s body was found in December 2011 in the woods north of University Parkway.

“During the investigation, detectives followed up on numerous leads and questioned Benjamin Moulton about his connection to Nicole, but he denied any involvement in her murder, and detectives lacked enough evidence to link him to the crime,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a release on Thursday.

Detectives never closed the case but didn’t make an arrest until Wednesday.

Moulton met with investigators and said he killed her “in a fit of rage” and gave them other details that were previously unknown or not released.

He told detectives that he has since “found Jehovah and couldn’t live with the guilt anymore.”

The State Attorney’s Office was contacted, and Moulton was charged with first-degree murder.
