“It’s my first professional show, yeah, really exciting,” sais Jaryn McCann.

Jaryn McCann has been prepping for his role of Scott - best buddy turned demon - since fifth grade.

It’s for the horror rock comedy “Evil Dead: The Musical,” opening this week at Stageworks Theatre in Tampa.

And McCann’s devil is silly and maniacal.

“Once I put on that demon mask Scott goes away from Act I, and I’m just a demon," he said.

The University of Tampa senior is from Lakeland, so his family will get to see his *pre-graduation professional debut - except for his 12-year-old brother.

Stageworks Director Karla Hartley is responsible for casting actual college students for the role of college students who accidentally summon demons while staying in a creepy cabin in the woods.

“It’s really wonderful to see these kids in a professional environment. They are all just lights-out talented,” said Hartley.
