Hugo and Flor Albarran relocated to Florida to help make a better life for their 4 children. Hugo, the sole provider, underwent emergency appendix surgery last year and hasn’t been well since. His wife stepped in and began working, but with little income their home fell into disrepair.

The kitchen didn’t work well, the bathroom was full of mold, and the home badly needed a new roof.

After hearing the family’s story, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay contacted a number of volunteers and contractors and together they remodeled the family’s Plant City home.

Contractors from Handy Man Co, Restoration Rec, Force Electric, High Low Plumbing, the Florida Healthcare Engineering Association and RTTB’s In-House Handy Man agreed to do the renovation at little to no cost in order to help the Albarran family.

The family has been overjoyed watching the process.

“They can’t say thank you enough,” said Madelyn Figueroa-Beniquez with Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay. “This woman, every time we come out here and subcontractors are out here she cooks for them and will not let them go without eating. Even though we tell her no, you don’t have to, she cooks because that’s how she feels she can give back to the people who are assisting.”

The Albarran’s will be back in their newly renovated home by Thanksgiving.

The market value of this project will be $65,000, once completed.
