CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — A Homosassa man faces several charges after driving recklessly toward the Inverness Christmas Parade on Saturday and striking a deputy.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said 25-year-old Aaron Williams was seen driving erratically near the perimeter of the parade at US Hwy 41 North and Montgomery Avenue.

When deputies tried to stop him, that's when investigators say Williams drove toward the deputy and hit him. Luckily, the deputy only received minor injuries.

The sheriff's office said Williams drove around several barriers set up to block streets leading up to the parade.

"What should have been a fun-filled, festive parade was interrupted by a few moments of havoc for those who witnessed the chaos caused by Williams' careless and reckless actions," said Sheriff Prendergast. Our deputies quickly recognized a threat to public safety and reacted immediately to Williams' erratic behavior. Even though Williams had a blatant disregard for public safety, our deputies' actions exemplified service above self when it comes to the safety of our community."

Williams is now in the Citrus County detention facility and charged with one count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and five counts of resisting an officer without violence.
