According to the FHP, 52-year-old Kristen Kay Watts was traveling northbound on I-275 while approaching road closures for the race. Watts failed to stop or detour onto US-41 and drove through several traffic cones and barricades put in place for the 10K.

When troopers attempted to pull over Watts, she continued northbound on SR-93 while failing to stop for them and additional FWC officers assigned to the toll plaza.

After going through the plaza, Watts then apporached two responding southbound troopers in the northbound lanes of SR-93 that were attempting to intercept her and protect the thousands of runners in the race on the Skyway Bridge.

As Watts approached the troopers, they stopped inside of the travel lanes and Watts collided nearly head-on with one of the troopers' Chevy Tahoe.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital and Watts was later arrested.

This dashcam video was released Monday by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Monday that Trooper Toni Schuck, a 26-year veteran of the agency, was the "last line of defense to the Skyway 10K runners" and that she placed herself in harm's way to protect others.

Watts is facing charges of DWI with serious bodily injury, DUI damage to property and reckless driving with property damage.

She is being held without bond.

Those wishing to contact Trooper Schuck, who continues to recover from her injuries with her family at home, may send their thoughts to her attention at Florida Highway Patrol, 11305 North McKinley Drive, Tampa, FL 33612 or on social media.
