FLORIDA — Florida's average gas price continues to slowly trickle down.
The Sunshine State's average price for gas on Friday is at $3.68 per gallon, reported AAA.
Prices have gone down for awhile: Thuesday was at $3.70, Wednesday was at $3.73, Tuesday was at $3.75 and Monday at $3.78.
The current record for the average price of gas in Florida is $4.89 that was set on Monday, June 13.
In February, Florida drivers were paying an average of about $3.50 per gallon.
National gas prices
The national average price of gas is also continuing to go down. On Thursday, prices dipped to just under the $4 mark for the first time in more than five months.
On Friday, AAA said the national average for a gallon of regular was $3.97.
Prices have dropped 15 cents in the past week and 68 cents in the last month, according to the auto club.
The shopping app GasBuddy reported that the national average was already down to $3.98 on Wednesday.
Falling prices for gas, airline tickets and clothes are giving consumers a bit of relief, although inflation is still close to a four-decade high.
For some context, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says $4.11 in 2008 is worth about $5.25 in 2022. AAA had predicted prices would keep spiking and that they could resume their climb, which they did after a short-term decline.
Oil and gas prices started surging at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and continued climbing, except for a brief dip, after President Joe Biden announced the United States was banning Russian oil imports.
