PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — One hour: It’s the time it takes to get through an episode of your favorite TV drama show.

What You Need To Know

That’s also how long it takes to impact the lives of people in need when you volunteer with the senior service program Neighborly.

Leaders with the organization say with summer approaching, the need is great and volunteers are scarce.

On a recent Wednesday, with the help of volunteers, healthy, nutritious meals were taken to the homes of more than 400 seniors in need in Pinellas County.

“I never have to think about food — I never have to think about going anywhere,” said Neighborly volunteer Lisa Schalk. "I’m just so blessed in my life and these people are homebound, they have no one to get them food. They don’t have the means to do that. What a great gift to be able to do that.”

Schalk had seven stops with a total of 12 meals to account because sometimes somebody gets a weekend meal.

The meals she picks up are from one of 10 different nutrition sites throughout the county.
