ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. – A Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy ran over a woman with his patrol vehicle on around 1:08 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a statement from the department.

Deputy Todd Brien was on beach patrol behind 4450 Gulf Boulevard in his marked Chevy Tahoe talking to beachgoers when he received a 911 hang-up call. The release goes on to state that Deputy Brien made a right turn on the beach when he struck Robin Diffenderfer, who was lying on her back on the beach. It goes on to report that Deputy Brien's front driver's side tire drove over "Diffenderfer's right side and mid to upper back area."

Diffenderfer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team.
