TAMPA, Fla. — Now that the primary elections are over, candidates are looking ahead to November’s general election.

Prominent Republicans hit the campaign trail across Florida Wednesday, including in Tampa where Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio held a rally.

Rubio spoke to supporters at the TPepin Hospitality Centre, slamming the student loan forgiveness program President Joe Biden announced this week. Rubio said it will fall on taxpayers to cover the costs, including those without student loans.

“Eighty-five percent of the American people who do not have a student loan are going to pay for it,” Rubio told the crowd. “You're going to go work eight or nine hours and then you're going to come home and you're going to realize, 'I just worked today to pay off loans.'"

DeSantis followed Rubio, touching on his upcoming election against Charlie Crist, as well as addressing other Republican candidates that won elections Tuesday.
