PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Ian left a path of destruction in the Charlotte County area, including Punta Gorda, where as much as 7 feet of storm surge washed ashore Thursday near the gulf.

The hurricane’s eye made landfall near Cayo Costa, a barrier island just west of heavily populated Fort Myers. 

The aftermath of Ian in Punta Gorda streets was extreme Thursday morning.

Trees are down on streets across town, along with down power lines.

Emergency and fire alarms blaring from various buildings.  

Flooding on streets closer to the gulf remain.

There were at least two buildings that partially collapsed into roads getting in to downtown.  

All power is out early Thursday.
