HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — Verizon Wireless customers may see issues when dialing 911 due to a nationwide outage, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Manatee County Government Public Safety Department and Pinellas County Government.

Officials said that the call may fail, or the 911 operator may hear the caller, but the caller may not be able to hear the operator.

County officials ask residents to not use social media to seek emergency help, as those platforms may not be consistently monitored and will not result in immediate assistance.

The sheriff's office also said that Text-to-911 is still available and if the call does ring in to their Emergency Communications Center, but seems to have failed, they will call back.

Verizon Wireless users in Hernando County should contact the temporary administrative line, at 352-754-6850 until the issue is corrected. Users in Manatee can dial 941-748-2222 and users in Pinellas can dial (727) 588-4761.

Manatee County Emergency Operations announced Wednesday October 5, that 911 should be working as normal again.

Officials will announce when service has been restored in their counties.
