TAMPA, Fla. — Mayor Jane Castor made it official on Monday, filing paperwork to run for re-election as mayor of Tampa.

Castor, a Democrat and the city’s former police chief, had previously said she would run for re-election.

During her first term, she has touted upgrading long-neglected infrastructure, enhancing workforce development, improving government services, and making resiliency and sustainability a central focus for Tampa.

Castor also has said the city needs to continue efforts to increase access to affordable housing.

Castor, 62, served as police chief for six years after being named to the position in 2009.
