Maria Landaeta works for an insurance carrier dealing with property and casualty claims.

“I work for an insurance carrier and basically my daily activities are to deal and handle complex claims, pre-litigation and with litigation.”

She began her career in Venezuela.

“I was able to not only practice law but somehow be part of the legislation that applies to the insurance industry,” she said.

After living in the Tampa Bay area for eight years, she noticed an issue — she said many Hispanics become the target of scams because of the language barrier.

“When they are coming back and requesting for more money, not being in agreement with the amount of money that was paid if the claim was denied,” Landaeta said.

Because of the barriers, she has made it her mission to educate the Hispanic community in a language they understand.

Through TikTok videos, she highlights the most common scams and tells people about changes to laws.

Landaeta has over 1,000 followers and over 10,000 likes. She believes her mission is bigger than just creating videos.

“It’s important to build this community and get together and be able to support the families inside the insurance industry,” she said.

She also hopes to create a public awareness campaign through social media, bridging the communication gap and protecting people from scams.

“I would like to be the influencer in the insurance industry for my Hispanic community, providing them with all the information in Spanish,” Landaeta said.

Landaeta posts videos on TikTok every week. Her handle is “el futuro del seguro.”
