TAMPA — A judge has sentenced former Hillsborough County ice cream truck driver Michael Keetley to life in prison.

He was found guilty in March on two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

The judge gave him life sentences on all six counts.

The shooting happened in Ruskin in 2010

Prosecutors said he targeted the wrong group of people on a Ruskin front porch in retaliation for his own shooting and robbery of $12 from his ice cream truck, a purple vehicle that was a familiar sight in the neighborhood.

Brothers Juan and Sergio Guitron died in the Thanksgiving 2010 shooting at a Ruskin home. Four other men were seriously injured.

Keetley had maintained his innocence for 12 years. His first trial was in early 2020 and ended in a mistrial.

The verdict and sentence closes Hillsborough County's longest-running case.
