After one year of high school basketball, Chucky Atkins is reportedly going back to college.

According to a report by Orlando sports radio host David Baumann, Atkins will join the University of South Florida basketball staff as a student assistant. Reports indicate he will be a student manager for Bulls coach Stan Heath while working on finishing his undergraduate degree.

Atkins did not immediately return a phone message from Bright House Sports Network.

Atkins, an 11-year NBA veteran, led Evans to the 7A state championship game last season as the Trojans finished with a 20-8 record.

His NBA career included one season with the Orlando Magic. Atkins played at USF from 1992-96 and was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 2012.

Atkins could join one of his former players at USF. Dre Clayton, a 6-6 forward who played two games last season for Evans before suffering a torn Achilles, signed with the Bulls and is expected to be on campus this summer.
