The Tampa Bay area is home to national champions.

Several Bob Sierra YMCA gymnasts won titles last week at the YMCA National Championships in Long Beach, California.

Destiny Garcia, an all around national champion last year, placed first on the bars and beam with some of the highest scores of the event. Brady Boyer, the lone boy competing for the Bob Sierra Y, won the boys title on the vault.

Level 6 gymnasts Marisa Sapienza and Kira McClard won event titles on the bars and floor exercise. Julian Price placed second on the vault. Price and Karis Dell advanced to the finals for Level 8, the top 25 out of 100 girls in the junior division.

Price finished fifth and Dell 15th overall.

The Tampa Y sent 30 gymnasts to nationals, an event that features some of the top gymnasts from all over the country. The Tampa Convention Center hosted the competition in 2014.

Overall, the Bob Sierra Level 8 team finished fifth in the nation.
