Tampa, Fla. -- Arianna Mosley is following in her father's footsteps.

“Originally I didn’t really have an interest in playing basketball,“ said the Tampa Prep guard. “I was doing dance and gymnastics and then I told my mom one summer I was tired of dance and I wanted to try something new cause my dad played basketball and I always heard how he good he was.”

Bradley Mosley was a starting guard for USF in the early 2000’s. He finished second on the team in scoring his junior year and looked poised for a big senior season. Until one morning, he noticed something was wrong.

“He was complaining that his side was hurting and the trainers noticed he wasn’t able to finish the run they had that morning,” said Emmanuella Premier, Bradley's fiancée at the time.

Bradley was diagnosed with renal medullary carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer.

“Initially we were like we can beat it, even though the diagnosis was nine months.”

In the midst of chemotherapy, Bradley became a father.

“So he actually had chemo that day. He got there about three hours before she was born, so he actually made it and it was beautiful, he was crying, I was crying.”

Unfortunately, that joy would soon turn to heartache. Eight months after Arianna was born, Bradley lost his battle with cancer. He was 22 years old.

“To go from being with each other every single day for two to three years to basically losing your best friend, it was tough,” said Premier.

Arianna never really got to know her dad, but not a day goes by where she doesn’t think about him.

“I’ve had it forever, same spot. Every new house same spot by the door. I just look at it and say hi sometimes."

He may not be here to witness it, but Emmanuella knows Bradley would be beaming with pride over his daughter. Last year, Arianna made the girls varsity basketball team at Tampa Prep as a freshman. Earlier this summer, she earned her first scholarship offer from Bethune-Cookman.

“He would be really proud of her from in the classroom, to on the court, and just everything in life.”

Arianna Mosley is carrying on her father’s legacy while creating her own. But no matter her journey takes her, she knows her dad is with her in spirit.

“I think he would push me to keep going and be there with me every step of the way.”
