LITHIA, Fla. - They might not pass the eye test.

But don’t count these Newsome Wolves out.

“We might not look the best getting off the bus,” head coach Christian Yokey said, “but when we play, people know who they’re playing against.”

The one trait Newsome’s opponents quickly pick up on? Their toughness.

“If you’re not tough, you can’t win in high school football,” Yokey said.

There’s tough and then there’s Cade tough. A lot of the Wolves wins can be traced to offensive lineman Cade O’Hehir. He embodies what it means to be a Newsome Wolve.

“His attitude’s unbelievable,” Yokey said. “Probably one of the toughest kids I’ve ever coached.”

How tough? How about playing with a torn labrum in eight games this season. The only thing that stopped him? Surgery.

“I wanted to play and be out here with all my brothers and just have that fun and have a senior year,” Cade said.

Maybe it’s his position. Offensive lineman are arguably the most unselfish players on a football team. They don’t get the stats, the touchdowns, the glory. It’s always about the team.

“It’s just kind of where I was put and I want to make the most out of it,” Cade said. “I got to play on Friday nights and that’s what you’ve got to cherish the most out of it.”

This senior might not physically be on the field with his teammates, but he’s contributing in his own special way.

“I’m super excited,” Cade said. “I’m the biggest cheerleader out here and just want to make all of them notice that and just remember me, all that.”

Even though he’s sidelined for the rest of the season, his smile’s still there and so is that attitude. Tough doesn’t even begin to describe Cade. His attitude permeates throughout the rest of the team.

“Hopefully we can be the toughest team on Friday and get the win,” Yokey said. “Our whole focus this year was talking about how we didn’t just want to be there. We wanted to compete.

“Here we are in the regional final with a home game and chance to make a name for ourselves.”
