It's been two yeqars since Danny Gutcher has played in a competitive baseball game at Eckerd College..

The Pandemic took away two seasons from the Gaither grad and his teammates. It's been six hundred and ninety-eight days between games for the Tritons.

The red shirt Freshman  Waited two years just to begin his college baseball career. The Tritons cleanup hitter made good use of his time away from the game. Danny is a Senior academically and will graduate  and go on to grad school.

Danny wants to research CTE and how it effects the brain in athletes and the many ways it can be treated. Danny got interested in CTE when he had a trumatic brain injury as a teenager.

in September of 2017 when Hurricane Irma blew thru the Bay area it left a lot of downed power lines and trees. Danny and his father were out in the yard cutting down a tree when a loose brach feel and struck Danny directly on the head, splitting the top of his head open. Danny was lucky, he would require sixteen stitches and be released that day, but it could have been much worse.

"That motivated me to really study the brain. the Eckerd catcher said, because there’s other people that are leaving this earth because of the brain and I just want to be able to help with that".

Danny has only one year to make his impact on the baseball field and if he does not get drafted into the majors, he will begin Grad school, but his dream to help learn more about brain injuries, could have a much longer effect then anything he did on the field.
