PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A man was killed in Palm Harbor early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At around 4:47 a.m., Kyle Stevens Birdyshaw was driving his 2002 Ford Focus on northbound East Lake Road heading towards Pasado Drive when he lost control of his car, according to the FHP.

The car left the road and the 25-year-old New Port Richey driver overcorrected and got back onto the road, however, his car entered the median, spun out, struck a light pole and then finally hit a tree, described the FHP.

The 37-year-old passenger, also of New Port Richey, was taken to the Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he died, FHP stated.

His identity has not been released.

Birdyshaw suffered serious injuries and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital.

Both men wore their seatbelts and it is unknown if alcohol played a part in the crash, stated the FHP.
