LAKELAND, Fla. — A consistently rough railroad crossing is causing big delays in Lakeland.

The problem area is the crossing on U.S. 92 at County Line Road.

"It's gotten so bad over the years that traffic slows down to about five miles an hour just to get over it," said resident Kristie Eiland-Mora.

At times it can take 30 minutes and three light cycles just to cross the tracks and that's when there's not a train coming.

"The patch-job they did a couple years ago maybe lasted a couple months, max," Eiland-Mora said. "And here recently, just on Tuesday, they did another patch-job but it didn't solve anything whatsoever."

As Lakeland continues to build large-scale businesses, the number of big trucks increases as well.

"Amazon trucks are going over here daily," Eiland-Mora said. "Publix trucks are going over here multiple times a day. We've got the O'Reilly's distribution center, we've got Save a Lot distribution center and Phillips Feed Supply company going over these tracks numerous times a day. More traffic than honestly this old track can handle."

With thousands of crossings, keeping up with maintenance is a huge job at CSX. And while the crossing is on its radar, CSX does not have a date or timeline ready for full repairs.

"The state is currently working on preliminary engineering for a reconstruction project at the U.S. 92 and County Line Road crossing," CSX said in a statement. "CSX maintenance crews will continue to complete minor repairs until the full project work is scheduled."

Until then, drive carefully and should you experience any damage to your vehicle as a result of the poorly maintained tracks, you can report damage to CSX and its claims department.
