HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Nearly 2,000 residents of the Plantation community are hoping to get Hillsborough County's attention to get some much-needed repairs.

What You Need To Know

Built in the 1970's, the area has seen many upgrades: New courts, pool and other amenities.

They've also received good cooperation from the agencies that service the community. For example, TECO brought in more than 250 new utility poles to help with the upgrade.

And now community manager Ron Throwbridge is looking to the county for help.

Many sections of sidewalk, roadway and drainage are crumbling.

"We've been told that the sidewalk repairs ongoing in the area are only those that were those that were reported in 2011 and 2012,” Throwbridge said. “That's nine years ago.  We're here today and we have over 200 sidewalks that need repairs."

He believes they just can't get the county's attention.

“When we call in for storm-sewer problems, we're always told, ‘Well that was reported a few years ago.’”

There are 1,800 people who live here, and waiting years for repairs to county facilities has been a strain.

"So, for the safety of our residents and the safety of our members also, we took the initiative to make sure we picked up in house some of the roadways also, patch up some of the holes also; sidewalks as well too,” said Plantation board president Tony Rivera. “So we took a lot of that with our own funding also to make sure that our residents - for their safety as well too."

But there's still much to do.

“We've had workshops at our office here at Plantation and met with some wonderful people,” Throwbridge said. “But what's lacking is execution. “We're just not getting the work done that we've asked for."

On April 11, the county sent out a crew and patched all potholes in the community, so it's the sidewalks and sewers that need attention now. Those departments have been alerted and should be scheduling a time to have a look at what needs done.

And two of the roadways, Plantation Boulevard and Shadberry Drive, are scheduled for resurfacing, one next year and the other the following.
