ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — We're in a persistent pattern right now that has a breeze coming in from the Gulf. In this type of pattern scattered storms get an early start in Gulf and coastal regions.

Then they drift east from the Gulf during the morning hours and inland through the day, with most of them ending up on the other side of the state by evening. However, there can be more come in from the Gulf at just about any time due to the abundant moisture this time of year in the atmosphere.

With that being said, expect a few isolated storms overnight into early Tuesday morning with variably cloudy skies.

Low temperatures in this type of pattern do not drop much due to the muggy air coming in from the really warm gulf waters. So expect lows in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Tuesday will again feature scattered showers and storms moving in from the Gulf for the morning and progressing eastward as the day goes along. In this type of pattern the coverage of rain tends to be high, but it does not necessarily mean it will rain very long. In any one spot the chance of getting some rain is high, but the amount of time you get rain will likely be under an hour in most cases. With that in mind, do not be deceived by the high rain chances thinking that it will be an all-day rain event because it won’t. The coverage of measurable rain will be at about 60 percent of the region.

However, there will continue to be lots of clouds in our area because of the abundant moisture and scattered showers. That will actually help to keep our highs slightly below average in the upper 80s to near 90.

So there really won’t be much gain in temperature from the morning low near 80 and afternoon high near 89.

However, it will feel hotter than that due to the very high humidity that we always experience this time of year. That’s what makes it feel very sticky outside, even though the temperature is not that hot.
