August 2020 lived up to its billing with hot weather and almost normal rainfall.

What You Need To Know

  • August was hotter than normal

  • Rainfall was near normal

  • September will begin with warmth and rain chances

  • Much of the country will cool down this week

Looking back at August reveals a continuation of the normal heat and humidity from the earlier summer months. Most locations, however, had fewer, big storm days.

With fewer showers around, daily highs and lows ended up warmer than normal. Without the rain cooled air on many days, it got rather hot.

But, the days with showers and thunderstorms produced some very heavy rainfall. So, most spots ended up with above-average rainfall, and some had below-average rainfall. For some areas, a third of the rain fell in the last 2 days of the month.
