Strong storms capable of producing damaging winds are moving across Florida.

What You Need To Know

  • A Tornado Watch is in effect until 5 p.m.

  • A cold front is bringing the threat of severe weather

  • It turns windy behind the front, with hazardous boating

  • Cooler weather settles in for Halloween weekend.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved through Tampa Bay this morning.

But, a line of strong thunderstorms is now moving across Florida and will continue to move through the area for the afternoon.

Storms could produce tornadoes or damaging winds as they move east across the area. We already saw a waterspout earlier today.

We have high rain chances for the entire region. It's our best rain chance in over a month.

We encourage everyone to have the alerts set on our app and to check in with Klystron 9 throughout the day.

The timing of these storms will vary from location to location, and some may receive more than one storm throughout the day. However, the window for strong to severe thunderstorms will end this evening.

A line of gusty thunderstorms will move onshore right before the main cold front arrives. These storms will last through 5 p.m.

Once the cold front passes to the south and east late today, the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms will diminish.

Winds will ramp up behind the front late Thursday as a cooler air mass flows into Tampa Bay, resulting in dangerous boating conditions through Friday with rough seas.

Seas may build to 8-14 ft just off the coastline Thursday night with gale-force winds. Minor splash over at high tide is possible in spots exposed to the Gulf waters.

The wind will subside going into the weekend, but cloudy weather may linger into Saturday.

We will continue to hold onto rain chances on Friday and Saturday as showers continue to swing through from the Gulf. This will keep temperatures in the 60s and 70s for much of the day Saturday.

However, huge improvements arrive just in time for Halloween! The sun will return, and high temperatures will be in the low to mid-70s. It will finally feel like autumn around here.
