Zukie Tzekas with the family-owned Sunset Grill in Clearwater shares the recipe of one of the restaurant's award-winning pies.

Which one? Well, July 4 was just yesterday, so we're keeping it patriotic with that most "American" of pies: Apple Pie!

Zukie's Award-Winning Apple Pie

Ingredients

Filling
• 8 Granny Smith Apples
• ½ c Butter
• ¼ c Water
• 3 tbsp. Flour
• ¼ c Sugar
• ¼ c Brown Sugar
• ¼ tsp Cinnamon

Pie Crust
• 2 c. All-purpose flour
• ½ tsp. Corn starch
• ½ tsp. Sugar
• ¼ tsp. Salt
• ½ c Vegetable oil
• ¼ c Milk

To make pie crust, add all dry ingredients and mix together, add wet ingredients

To make filling:
1. Melt butter in saucepan
2. Stir in flour to form a paste, add water to thicken. Add both sugars and bring to a boil
3. Reduce temperature and simmer
4. Pour on top of apples and place in pie shell
5. Bake 45 minutes uncovered at 350 degrees then cover bake an additional 15 minute
