It was a Saturday morning celebration at Harllee Stadium that will go down in Palmetto Tiger history.

  • Palmetto Tigers defeat Manatee Hurricanes
  • Friday game delayed due to weather
  • Game resumed Saturday with Palmetto winning 35-7

Palmetto High School is the first Manatee County football program to beat the Manatee High School Hurricanes since 2006. The last time the Tigers beat the Hurricanes was in 2004.

But the win was not a conventional one. The game was originally slated for Friday night in Palmetto, but severe thunderstorms sent everyone running for cover towards the end of the second quarter.

The game was postponed and picked up at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Tigers were up 21-0 when it was called on Friday.

Both teams returned ready for the rivalry, but ultimately Palmetto came out on top with a 35-7 victory.
