Ahead of the opening of Volcano Bay, Universal Orlando has revealed the backstory for its new water park.

  • Volcano Bay's backstory includes creation myth for the land
  • Waturi Islanders discovered the land with the help a mystical fish
  • Volcano Bay opens May 25

The story is about the Waturi Islanders, who discover the land with the help of a mystical fish.

The creative team behind Volcano Bay traveled to parts of the South Pacific for inspiration. Many elements from the area are included in the park, including Polynesian architecture.

Volcano Bay will offer an immersive experience and several attractions like a multi-directional wave pool and body slides.

The story also includes a myth about how Volcano Bay was created.

A fiery god Krakatau couldn’t contain his spirited daughter, Tai Nui, who fell in love with a young native named Kala.  According to the myth, when Krakatau learned of the romance, he banished Kala to the sky, where he became the sky.

Grief-stricken, Tai Nui’s tears became the sea. Once Krakatau realized he had destroyed his daughter’s happiness, he sought to reunite the two lovers.

He created a volcano and trapped his anger in the form of a fire spirit inside.

When visitors arrive at Volcano Bay, they will be welcomed as a member of the Waturi family and presented with a TapuTapu wearable.  The device allows you to access the Virtual Line system at the water park.

Volcano Bay is scheduled to open May 25.
