A carefree day at the beach, with everything included, is just an island away.

“We have a beautiful beach, we have nice people,” said Drenda Vijuk with The Picnic Basket.

Where Georgia flows into Florida awaits the quaint resort town of Fernandina Beach and “The Picnic Basket.”

Along Centre Street on Amelia Island is where Drenda Vijuk made a business, helping others take a day off.

“We actually provide lovely baskets and we pack them for you,” Vijuk said. “The napkins, the glasses, the wine opener, anything you could ask for in a picnic, we will provide for you.”

The Kentucky native grew up loving the outdoors. Now she’s feeding the soul and the palate.

“We do a lot of cheese and charcuterie, we do sandwiches, salads,” Vijuk said.

In the kitchen, fresh ingredients come together for made-to-order lunches.

Some choose to eat in, others grab boxes to go.  And then there is dessert...

The picnic baskets are loaded with a meal, a bottle of wine and dessert.  All you need to do is pick it up, so you can concentrate on bigger things.

“We have done several pop-up proposals, where the groom has us pack a picnic basket,” said Vijuk. “He takes his love to the beach and proposes.”

Picnickers then have 24 hours to return their gourmet basket and get their $20 deposit back.

“I just want it to be a happy memory for all involved,” Vijuk said.

You can find The Picnic Basket on Centre Street in Fernandina Beach, open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Check out The Picnic Basket website for menu and services.
