Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire at the end of the 2017 NASCAR season, Hendrick Motorsports announced in a press release Tuesday.

Earnhardt, 42, has 26 career wins and two NASCAR XFINITY Series championships (1998, 1999) since joining the professional ranks at age 24 in 1999.

Earnhardt missed half of the 2016 season after suffering a concussion. He has since returned for the 2017 season and is currently ranked 24th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings.
