This one’s for the bubble guys.

The guys fighting for the roster lives. Tampa Bay Bucs starters are set, so Thursday night’s preseason finale against Washington is for the players who haven’t secured their spot on the team.

“Usually the fourth game, they let the free agent guys, the younger guys get more reps,” rookie linebacker Riley Bullough said. “So I think that will happen and I think we’re ready.

“The big thing is we’re just excited.”

Anyone watching HBO’s Hard Knocks this season has witnessed Bullough’s excitement. They’ve also seen his contributions on special teams, which is where he would need to latch on with a deep linebackers corps.

The running back position presents an interesting dilemma for the Bucs since projected starter Doug Martin will be serving a league suspension the first three games of the season. Injuries also affect how team officials will tinker with the final roster.

“[GM] Jason [Licht] and myself have to be thinking about not only the very first game, but you’ve got to be thinking long term as well and you have to be thinking about the 46 [players] that would be up on September 10,” head coach Dirk Koetter said. “Yeah, it’s a little tricky and it changes every day based on you practice today, you get a couple guys back, a couple other guys get nicked up and we’re playing a live game Thursday night, so again it could change.”

Third-year wide receiver Adam Humphries can relate to the uncertainty. He was where the bubble guys are in 2015, battling for the final receiver spot on the depth chart. Humphries vividly remembers the fourth preseason game that year.

“That was probably the biggest game of my career,” Humphries said. “I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember every catch I had that game.”

Humphries has advice for the players putting it all out there on Thursday night.

“If you don’t make the team here, obviously there’s a chance you can come back later in the year or just putting good film out there, maybe you can make another team,” Humphries said. “You can’t really think about it too much.

“Just go out there and play football and have fun.”
