The teenager who police said threatened to blow up Freedom High School in 2011 has pleaded no contest.

Jared Cano, 18, appeared in court Tuesday, where he entered his plea.

In September, his attorney, Norman Cannella Sr., told a judge that it would have been "difficult with the facts that would come out to convince a jury that my client was innocent."

Police said Cano had planned to carry out a Columbine-style attack on the first day of class at the Tampa high school, but a classmate alerted police.

Cano will be sentenced at another hearing in December.

Cano's lawyer is hoping for no prison time. He said although Cano was collecting bomb making devices, and had detailed plans to murder several students and faculty members, he wouldn't have followed through.

“Certainly he had fantasized over what had happened at Columbine. However, it was nothing but a fantasy,” said Norman Cannella, Sr., Cano's attorney.
