In St. Petersburg, all those "dancing sign holders" can keep on grooving.

Advertising everything from lunch deals to cell phones, the sign holders often do more than just hold their signs. Often they dance and move and twirl their signs, all in an attempt to grab attention.

Officials were looking at an ordinance that could’ve shut down the activity but instead the St. Petersburg City Council voted to tweak the language of the ordinance for safety reasons.

The sign holders are currently allowed to be within two-feet of curb. The Council wants that distance to grow to five-feet.

Also, the Council told staff to take out the language that bans the movement and spinning of signs.

Supporters of the sign ordinance had said the advertising is unsightly and a distraction for drivers.

A second public hearing will be held on Nov. 1 at City Hall.
