A duck found with an arrow through its head is now recovering at Pinellas County's Animal Services.

Animal Control officer John Hobson and two others discovered the animal in a St. Petersburg pond Thursday.

Dr. Caroline Thomas, director of veterinary services, took X-rays of the duck and performed surgery to remove the arrow.

"While the injury was quite severe and the surgery was complicated, I feel comfortable that the duck will make a full recovery," said Thomas.

Volunteers and staff now affectionately call the duck Quackers.

Once he is stable, he will go to Loving Care Animal Hospital in Largo. From there, he may be released into a private pond.

The staff at St. Petersburg College for Veterinary Assistant Services assisted Dr. Thomas.
