A poor harvest this year could soon cause oyster prices to climb for both restaurant owners and their customers.

A lot of people come into Clawdaddy's Bar and Grill in Citrus County just for their oysters.

Not long ago, oysters were included in their Happy Hour all you can eat menu, but not anymore.

Now, if you want the slimy delicacies you'll have to pay more.

That's because a poor harvest is forcing the restaurant to pay more just to get oysters into their place.

“There was like a $10 increase on our cases,” said Morgan Cook, with Clawdaddy's.

At The Oyster Restaurant in Crystal River, owner William Bunch is seeing the same sort of increase for smaller oysters.

“I used to get a 30 pound box for $16, now I'm paying $26 for that box,” said Bunch.

So far, Bunch has not passed that increase onto customers, but he says if things don't get better by November his new menu will reflect it.

“Hopefully in time, the price will level out; otherwise, I’ll have to go up in prices,” said Bunch.

At Clawdaddys, they're also hoping the prices come down so they can make customers happy and put those oysters back on the happy hour menu.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has said he plans to step in to try and help those in the oyster industry.

He's particularly focused on the oyster catchers who are suffering around Apalachicola Bay.

Assistance could include more dredging, spreading shells on the floor of the bay and even filling in a channel.
