More than 500 people, including many retired pro-wrestlers, packed the Largo Cultural Center to honor 61-year-old Mike Graham.

A WWE video featuring highlights from Graham's pro-wrestling career was played at the memorial service.

Graham's widow, Diane, wore her husband's Hawaiian shirt that they were married in to the service.

Diane, who heard the gunshot that took her husband's life Oct. 18, talked about the suicide for the first time publicly Thursday from the backyard of Graham's Indian Rocks Beach home.

“There were no signs leading up to it, no warnings, my job was to protect him, you know," she said.

The two were in Daytona for Biketoberfest. Diane said Graham was wearing his son's biker boots at the time.

Graham's son, 37-year-old Steve Gossett, committed suicide two years ago.

Graham's dad, the famous pro-wrestler Eddie Graham, also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in 1985.

“When Steven took his life Mike said, ‘I must’ve been a bad son for my dad to do this and I must’ve been a bad father for my son to do this.' And he took it so personal that he felt guilty that he didn’t do it," she said.

Clinical psychologist Dr. Steven O'Brien said research shows suicide does run in families.

“Sons who’s fathers have completed suicide are at much higher risk themselves for doing the same,” he said. “We’re not sure exactly how much of that again is due to genetics versus environment, likely it’s due to a combination of both.”

Diane said she doesn't believe her husband's suicide was planned.

"I know in my heart," she said, "it was just a spur of the moment decision and if he could’ve turned around and looked at himself and saw what he did that he would’ve said, ‘oops, I didn’t mean to do that.’”

The widow said Graham, who felt like he was fading away, would be touched by the outpouring of support from the community. Diane said she finds comfort in knowing she was truly loved for 23-years.

"Nobody has ever or will ever love me the way that Mike loved me. And that I loved him in a way that I never loved anybody before. And that is something that I get to take with me for the rest of my life.”

Diane said Graham never wanted a funeral, instead she called the service a celebration of his life.
