Deputies have arrested a second-grade teacher from Winter Haven and her boyfriend on charges of burglary and dealing in stolen property.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, 42-year-old Amy Alvarado, a teacher at Haines City's Eastside Elementary School, drove her boyfriend, Brian Fideau, 30, to the area of Troon Court SE in Winter Haven around 10 a.m. Tuesday

Fideau got out of the front passenger seat, ran into an open garage and stole a golf bag filled with clubs valued at more than $2,500, deputies said.

The theft was witnessed by a neighbor who told deputies the car had been seen in the area previously. Deputies said the witness described the car as a tan Cadillac driven by a woman with a younger man in the front passenger seat. A description of the car was sent to local law enforcement officers.

Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies spotted the car and pulled it over. Detectives working the burglary case responded to the traffic stop and took the driver, identified as Alvarado, and Fideau into custody for an interview.

According to the arrest report, Alvarado told deputies the pair took the golf clubs to several pawn shops to try and sell them. Alvarado said she eventually sold them to a Play It Again Sports store for $180, and she signed a form stating she was the owner of the property.

The clubs were located at the store by deputies.

Alvarado was charged with burglary to a dwelling, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and giving false verification to a pawn broker. Fideau denied any involvement in the crime but was also charged with burglary and grand theft, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

"We are disappointed to learn that Alvarado is a school teacher," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "She should have known and followed the 'Golden Rule.' She didn't, so now she may be eating pressed turkey in the Polk County Jail for Thanksgiving."

Two other passengers in the Cadillac also were arrested: Alvarado's 22-year-old son, Gerson Alvarado, who was on probation for robbery, and his friend, 23-year-old Marlon Arrindell.

Gerson Alvarado was charged with violation of probation and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Arrindell was charged with possession.
