A fire broke out on a garbage truck on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg Thursday.

According to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, the truck stopped on I-275 near exit 22 at 5th Avenue South.

Officials said the driver was not injured but the fire slowed traffic as emergency crews dealt with the situation.

Sanitation officials said the truck was headed to the dump when the fire broke out just before noon. An official said it appears the fire started in the hydraulics system between the cab and the trailer. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire.

The fire is under investigation.
