Demand for Florida stone crab is on the rise, which means prices are going up as well.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the Tampa Bay Times, the supply for stone crab is down in some areas because of warm water, balmy weather and the animal's life cycle.

Another reason is that trappers are facing increased competition from octopuses, the population of which is exploding.

Some trappers say stone crab harvests are down about 80 percent from the usual harvests this time of year.
