Two people are dead and a third is injured after a shooting early this morning at a motel on 34th Street North, St. Petersburg police said.

Police said three people were shot during a robbery attempt about 3:42 a.m. at the Kenwood Village Inn, 701 34th Street N.

One of the victims, Eric T. Carter, 41, and one of the gunmen, Garrick C. Lucas, 25, were fatally injured. Micah Cave, 17, was wounded in the shooting, police said.

According to police, six men were outside of their hotel room playing cards when two men wearing masks and armed with shotguns approached them. Multiple shots were fired.

Carter was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The teenager also was taken to the hospital, and his condition is not known.

Police said said Lucas was shot to death by one of the men playing cards.

The investigation is ongoing.
