Following public outcry over a Seminole Fire Department decision to remove small American flags from their fire engines, a solution to return the flags has been reached.

Chief George Bessler told Bay News 9 on Monday proper flag mounts have been ordered and a local company will supply proper flags for the engines to fly the flags by the end of the week.

The order to remove the flags came from Bessler after the department received a complaint from a community member about flag placement on the fire engines.

City officials referred to U.S. Code Title 36 Chapter 10, section 175 that states hanging flags out windows is a violation. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the code states the staff has to be fixed to the chassis or the right fender.

A group of protesters organized and demonstrated against the decision outside the fire department Sunday.
