The Food Bank of Manatee County is asking for the public's help.

Donations are down and due to large cuts in federal funding, many of the foodbank shelves are bare.

The group says they are especially in need of past, tuna and other items used for family meals.

The food bank says if businesses are willing to display barrells for donations, they will deliver and retrieve them upon request.

Hunger Statistics

Recent statistics showed that almost 25 percent of families in the Bradenton/Sarasota/Venice area reported an inability to provide enough food for their kids. There are over 1,500 homeless children in the Manatee school system, and at least 1,000 more who are not school-age or not reported. These children are most at risk for the dangers of malnutrition.
