Just in time for the Republican National Convention, Tampa International Airport has launched a volunteer ambassador program.

The program features four new visitor information centers in the baggage claim areas. It kicked off July 16.

Officials say that so far, the team of more than 90 volunteers has assisted more than 3,300 passengers. The volunteers provide information on everything from shuttles and rental cars to restrooms and airlines.

Local tourism agencies help prep the volunteers for questions about local attractions.

It's a year-round effort, and volunteers man the booths from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

One volunteer worked at the airport for years and now says this is his way to give back to the community.

"When we have people come in, and we do expect a large influx of people for the convention, we'll be able to help them," volunteer ambassador Bob Wawrzyniak said.

Those interested in joining the program can apply at www.tampaairport.com or call (813) 870-8759.
